About Allegrini Corte Giara Ripasso la Groletta 2019

There are surnames that leave a mark, and Allegrini is undoubtedly one of them in the oenological realm of northern Italy. A family devoted to winemaking for over four centuries, it is one of the names that has significantly contributed to the development of Valpolicella and the crafting of exceptional red wines. The true architect of this wine dynasty was undoubtedly Giovanni Allegrini, nicknamed "the spider of the barrels" for his agility in the cellar, who could perceive like no other the immense oenological and viticultural potential of his land. A passion he passed on to his three children, Franco, Marilisa, and Walter, leading them into the world of Amarone, turning them into one of Italy’s most successful companies.

Among the diverse range of brands they create, Corte Giara was established in 1989 with the aim of broadening their range and making it more accessible to consumers. This is a line of young wines crafted from foreign varieties, including Allegrini Corte Giara Ripasso la Groletta. A wine born in vineyards located on the Veronese hills of Valpolicella, in the municipality of Fumane. Vineyards of the corvina and rondinella varieties situated in the mountainous areas of the DOC Valpolicella Ripasso, at an altitude of 180-250 meters above sea level, which are hand-harvested and selected only at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, the wine is crafted using the traditional Veronese "ripasso" technique. This means the grapes are first destemmed and crushed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 23-28°C for 9 days with daily pump-overs. A second fermentation is then initiated by adding Amarone pomace to the wine in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks where it remains for 5 months. Finally, the wine matures on lees for 15 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. It is not released to the market until it has spent 6 months in the bottle.

As a result, the Allegrini family proudly presents Allegrini Corte Giara Ripasso la Groletta. A superb wine for Valpolicella, a splendid wine for our table. Body, fruitiness, and extended ageing.
