About Cortes de Cima Blanco

When Anna Jørgensen assumed the helm of the family winery Cortes de Cima, she brought with her the expertise garnered during her years of learning in various wineries around the world. With a fresh and determined vision, she was clear about her goal: to transform the "new world" wine style that her parents, Carrie and Hans Jørgensen, had established in Alentejo. Instead of adhering to the tradition of technological intervention, Anna chose a more terroir-respectful approach, advocating for a less interventionist methodology.

It was no easy task, especially considering that Cortes de Cima spans over 240 hectares of vineyards. However, Anna, aware of the importance of sustainable and balanced change, decided to surround herself with experts such as Marco Simonit, a renowned pruning specialist, and Pedro Parra, a leading figure in terroir viticulture. Embracing the philosophy of "less is more", Anna set out to craft a collection of wines that would be a pure expression of the Alentejo terroir, without losing the essence of her family heritage.

A clear example of this change in direction is Cortes de Cima Blanco, a wine that perfectly reflects the winery's new path. The albariño and sauvignon blanc grapes, cultivated in the coastal vineyards of Alentejana, are grown under organic and biodynamic practices. The harvest, conducted in the cool early hours of the morning, ensures grapes of the highest quality, which are then destemmed and pressed, resting at low temperatures for 24 hours. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, both in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, where the wine matures for 6 months on fine lees, with regular stirring to enhance complexity. Finally, aging in French oak (40%) imparts a subtlety that perfectly complements the fruit's freshness.

As a result, Cortes de Cima Blanco is a balanced wine, with the freshness and complexity that defines Anna's style: a wine that carries the family tradition into the future, without losing sight of the respect for the land and the authenticity of the region.
