About COS Frappato

COS Frappato is an organic red wine made by Azienda Agricola Cos in Sicily with the native Frapatto variety.

Cos is an acronym of the first letters of three surnames: Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti. Founded in 1980, this winery was set up with the aim of reviving the way they used to work in Sicily. Their aim is to express the character of the volcanic soils and preserve them through using terracotta vats to make their wine. These are soft, deep and expressive wines that are some of the best in the denomination.

COS Frappato comes from 15-year-old vines planted in sandy and red soil. Lying 250 metres above sea level, they are organically cultivated according to biodynamic principles. When the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested by hand.

When the grapes reach the winery, COS Frappato is vinified through spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. It then ages in cement tanks followed by a short refinement in the bottle.

One of the most interesting wines from the Vittoria area of Sicily, COS Frappato is lively, direct and fresh. A wine that is easy to drink, but full of nuances and depth.

Cos Frappato 2019 is a juicy red wine with aromas of black fruit, citrus notes and hints of leather. On the palate it’s fresh, pleasant and enjoyable. A medium-bodied wine with a good tannic texture and an agreeable lingering finish.
