About Cristom Mt Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir

Cristom Mt Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir is a barrel-aged red wine made by Cristom in Villamette Valley, Oregon (USA) with the Pinot Noir red variety.

Cristom is a winemaking project in the state of Oregon run by winemaker, Cristom Steve Doerner, engineer, Paul Gerrie, and grower, Marcos Feltz. All three are committed to sustainable viticulture and low-intervention winemaking, and following these principles, they have been awarded Low Input Viticulture and Enology (LIVE) certification. Specialists of the Pinot Noir variety, they work to produce wines that are an honest and seductive expression of the place they come from.

Cristom Mt Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir comes from vines located in the prestigious Villamette Valley wine region. Named after the second highest peak in Oregon; Thomas Jefferson, this wine is a coupage from the different vineyards on the estate. These vines are planted in volcanic soils and sustainably cultivated, the harvest is carried out manually at the optimal point of ripeness.

Once the Cristom Mt Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir grapes have been selected in the winery itself, they are vinified with 40% left whole. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and with one to three daily pump-overs. The wine is then transferred by gravity to French oak barrels where it remains for 11 months. Before bottling, it is clarified with egg whites and not filtered.

2016 Cristom Mt Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir 2016 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruit, citrus notes and hints of sweet spices. On the palate it is fresh, balanced and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with fine, well-integrated tannins and a long and unexpected salty finish.
