About Arriscado Blanco

Storytellers are more popular than ever. Tales that captivate, entertain, and resonate with the emotions of the listener. They are narratives that transport us and offer a new perspective on the world. This concept of storytelling, of giving voice to something worthy of being heard, inspired Eduardo Eguren to create his project Cuentaviñas.

Eduardo, a fifth-generation member of the renowned Eguren family, has been connected to the viticulture of Rioja for decades with names like Sierra Cantabria, Viñedos de Páganos, and Teso la Monja. With Cuentaviñas, his aim is not merely to produce wine, but to narrate the story of each plot, allowing the land and the vines to speak for themselves. Each vineyard becomes a narrative, and each bottle, a tale to be savoured.

The clearest example of this philosophy is Cuentaviñas Arriscado Blanco, a white wine from the DOCa Rioja originating from a vineyard planted in 1966 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Situated on a gently rolling plain with a northern exposure, and soils composed of 55% limestone rocks and gypsum, this vineyard imparts a pronounced minerality and savouriness to the wine, reflecting the character of the land where it was born.

The production adheres to a principle of utmost fidelity to the vineyard. First, selected clusters macerate for 10 hours, then the free-run juice ferments in French oak vats, and finally, the wine ages for 12 to 16 months in the same vats. The result is an elegant, fresh, and profound white wine that mirrors the origin and personality of the Arriscado vineyard.
