About Cuentaviñas Septeno

Being a scion of the Eguren family (Sierra Cantabria, Viñedos de Páganos, Teso la Monja,…) is no easy feat. Every step you take is scrutinised against the legacy of a legendary family in the wine world, and any misstep can be magnified. The pressure is palpable, as you must prove your ability to uphold a legacy even before you carve out your own path.

Yet, as with all things in life, the challenges also bring their rewards. Growing up amidst ancient vineyards and historic barrels provides firsthand experience, profound knowledge, and access to exceptional vineyards that others can only dream of. For Eduardo Eguren, this blend of pressure and privilege was the driving force behind the creation of Cuentaviñas, his personal venture.

Among his wines, Septeno stands out as the seventh wine of the Cuentaviñas project and, according to Eduardo, the least Eguren-like of them all. It represents a significant twist in winemaking that breaks the mould within the collection. Cuentaviñas Septeno originates from a 1972 vineyard with a northern exposure, developed on loam-clay-silt soils with limestone. The alcoholic fermentation lasts 96 days with whole grapes, followed by an ageing process of 12-16 months in French oak vats and 500L barrels, and finally, it rests in the bottle in an 18th-century cellar.

Cuentaviñas Septeno is an intense, elegant wine with character, reflecting both the vineyard's history and Eduardo's meticulous attention to detail.
