De Trafford Blueprint Syrah 2020 is a red wine of character and elegance, where the fruit is expressed with generosity and precision. Aromas of blackberries and plums intertwine with notes of pepper, nutmeg, and a subtle herbal whisper reminiscent of the wild landscapes of the Cape. On the palate, it is juicy and spicy, with polished tannins and a freshness that maintains tension. About De Trafford Blueprint Syrah

De Trafford Blueprint Syrah is a single-variety Syrah red wine produced by the De Trafford winery in Coastal Region, South Africa.

De Trafford Blueprint Syrah is made with clusters that come from the neighbouring northwest-facing Keermont vineyard that is 16 years old. The soils are red Hutton with decomposed granite as well as the “Tip top Mont Fleur” plots with steep and stony slopes facing northwest.

The vineyards are harvested manually and the clusters are collected in 20 kg boxes. When they reach the winery, they are destemmed and squeezed gently and directly in small open fermentation tanks where they ferment spontaneously and with manual perforation of the “cap”, the layer of skins and other solid residues that covers the upper part of the liquid during maceration and fermentation, to make sure it is always in contact with the must.

Once fermentation is finished, there is a single press using a basket press. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in the barrel and is aged without new wood for twenty months and finally bottled by hand without filtering or refining.

The De Trafford family winery is located in a beautiful area of Mont Fleur, in the Stellenbosch region. The team works with the aim of producing high quality wines with their own personality that are able to express the unique characteristics of the surrounding area.
