About Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon

Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon is a wood-aged red wine made by Diamond Creek with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety in AVA Napa Valley, California (USA).
 
Known as the first Californian winery to bottle 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the same plot, Diamond Creek Vineyard is a benchmark for great winemakers. Founded in 1968 by Al Brounstein and his wife Adele Boots, this project started with identifying the differences in the soil composition and the slope of the terrain when planting the vines. This is how they ended up with four vineyards with very special characteristics: Volcanic Hill, Red Rock Terrace, Gravelly Meadow, and Lake Vineyard. Four unique plots that provide four very exclusive wines with a marked character of their own. Following the death of the founders, the winery was acquired in 2020 by the exclusive Maison Louis Roederer.
 
Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon comes solely from the small Red Rock Terrace plot. This plot has less than 3 hectares of vineyards planted in reddish soils with a high iron content. Throughout the year they enjoy a warmer climate and are meticulously cultivated through environmentally friendly agriculture. 
 
In the winery, once the best grapes have been selected to make Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon, they are crushed to ferment and macerate at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged in 225-litre wooden barrels for about 18 months. 
 
As the most accessible wine from this prestigious winery and one that reaches its best in a shorter time, Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon is the perfect introduction to the greatness of the Napa Valley.
2017 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is a concentrated red wine with an attractive purple garnet colour and a nose of deep fruity notes of blueberries, currants and Black Forest tart over a background of subtle notes of black olives, camphor, pencil shavings and earthy touches. On the palate it reveals a solid structure with firm and granulated tannins accompanied by a masterful acidity. A full-bodied, rich and mature wine with an incredibly long and fragrant finish.
2016 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is a concentrated red wine that first reveals deep aromas of plum jam, blackcurrant and Black Forest cake. When the wine is aerated, notes of espresso coffee, black tea, cardamom and menthol appear. On the palate it is flavoursome, tense and very muscular. A medium to full bodied wine with very ripe, firm and granular tannins accompanied by wonderful freshness. The finish is long, deep and subtly spicy.
2015 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is a concentrated red wine with a beautiful nose of ripe plums, cassis and blueberry jam combined with hints of chocolate, liquorice, vanilla and mocha and subtle hints of cedar and cinnamon. On the palate it is full-bodied, rich and enveloping. A wine with very ripe, fine-grained tannins accompanied by perfect freshness. The finish is lingering and heavily spiced.
