About Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a barrel-aged red wine produced by the prestigious Californian winery Diamond Creek in AVA Napa Valley (USA) with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety.
 
The Diamond Creek project was set up in 1968 by Al Brounstein and his wife Adele Boots on the steep slopes of Diamond Mountain, where they planted four separate plots in the hope of producing four unique wines: Volcanic Hill, Red Rock Terrace, Gravelly Meadow, and Lake Vineyard. This is how they became the first winery in the Napa Valley to bottle 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wines from a single plot. These are collector’s wines that are loved all around the world. Following the death of the founders, the winery was taken over by the exclusive Maison Louis Roederer in 2020.
 
Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon comes exclusively from a small vineyard of just over 3 hectares lying on a volcanic hill composed of grey soil of volcanic ash. Throughout the year, Volcanic Hill enjoys a warm climate and the vines are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way. 
 
In the winery, when the best grapes have been selected to make Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, they are crushed, fermented and macerated at a controlled temperature.  The wine is then aged in 225-litre wooden barrels for a minimum of 18 months. 
 
Napa Valley’s great reputation has been built by great wines. Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is one of these. A long-living wine that tends to be the most explosive and rich of the Diamond Creek collection.

2017 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is a concentrated red wine with an intense purple garnet colour and deep aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries and ripe plums accompanied by spicy notes of cloves, wild sage and woody touches. On the palate this wine is full-bodied with a somewhat rustic texture. It reveals marked tannins and a pleasant freshness. The finish is long, persistent and spicy.
2016 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is a concentrated red wine with a lush nose of black cherry, plum jam and blueberry tart with subtle hints of dark chocolate, sweet spices, cloves and hints of purple flowers. This is an enveloping wine with plenty of body and rich in nuances. On the palate it is very fruity with firm but silky tannins and wonderful freshness. The finish is long, opulent, and very long-lasting.
2015 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is a concentrated red wine with earthy aromas interspersed with notes of candied red fruits, currant jam and plum compote. It also reveals subtle scents of potpourri and hints of oak. On the palate this wine is enveloping, rich and complex. An explosion of fruit with fine-grained tannins and well-integrated acidity. The finish is long and persistent with spicy touches.
2014 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 is a concentrated red wine with an attractive purple garnet colour, delicious aromas of black soil over a fruity core of blackberry, cassis and ripe plums and a chocolate background. On the palate it is powerful, rich and enveloping. A medium to full bodied wine, full of flavoursome fruit with round tannins and plenty of freshness. The finish is long and persistent with subtle earthy and salty touches.
