Tasting notes Diego Magaña Carramonte 2022
Red wine Aged in wood.
Diego Magaña Carramonte 2022 opens with a dazzling bouquet of ripe black cherries and sweet blueberries. On the nose, it unfolds a medley of fruits that conjures images of summer moments with cherry blossoms. On the palate, this vintage reflects the warmth of the year, exhibiting fruitiness and a rich texture, achieved through its plentiful and slightly chewy tannins, yet well-balanced. Its lingering finish leaves a whisper of mineral notes, reminiscent of chalk pieces and a hint of subtle white pepper. Recommended for its ability to offer an experience full of fruity nuances and a pleasant, smooth yet characterful structure.

About Diego Magaña Carramonte
In the world of wine, generations hold more significance than one might assume. Vineyards, wineries, and knowledge are passed down from parents to children, from hand to hand, from harvest to harvest. Thus, when one is born under the shadow of a renowned figure in the viticultural realm, it remains uncertain whether their destiny in the wine world is shaped by inheritance or by calling.
For Diego Magaña, the answer emerged through studies and international experiences. After training at the Escuela de Viña y Vino de Madrid, he undertook internships at various wineries across Europe and South America, and had the opportunity to learn from one of the greats in Bierzo: Raúl Pérez. All this learning became the foundation upon which he established his own winery: Dominio de Anza, a tribute to his mother, Esperanza.
From his earliest harvests, Diego began crafting wines that captured the attention of critics and enthusiasts alike, initially in Bierzo and later in Rioja Alavesa, clearly imprinting his signature: absolute respect for the vineyard, minimal intervention, and a passion that can be tasted in every bottle.
Diego Magaña Carramonte is a wine born from vineyards situated near the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, one of the most prestigious areas of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The vines of tempranillo, graciano, viura, and garnacha, averaging 60 years old, thrive in clay-limestone soils, with a high percentage of silt and active limestone, elements that impart minerality and structure to the wine.
The harvest is entirely manual, and the vinification is carried out meticulously: each plot is processed separately in 4,000-litre vats, open 500-litre barrels with continuous filling, and small 1,000-litre stainless steel tanks. The ageing process lasts approximately 12 months, combining 4,000-litre wooden vats with 500-litre barrels, aiming to balance complexity, freshness, and expression of the terroir.
Diego Magaña Carramonte is a wine that speaks of tradition and character, capable of conveying with each sip the story of a winemaker who skillfully blended heritage, learning, and passion into a project that is already a benchmark in Spain's most celebrated regions.
