The Bermuda Triangle is renowned for its mystery, but in Burgundy there exists another equally legendary and far more radiant triangle: Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot. A genuine golden triangle, nestled among some of the world's finest red wines.
As early as 1110, the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux discerned the uniqueness of this land, which is why they christened it the "white vineyard." It was no coincidence. Centuries later, this enclave remains one of the best-kept secrets of the Côte de Nuits, a place where history, mystique, and terroir align almost perfectly.
Here is born Clos Blanc de Vougeot 1er Cru, a Chardonnay originating from a unique vineyard adjacent to the château of Clos de Vougeot. A small white oasis surrounded by legendary red vineyards, where the clay-limestone soil and exposure create an unparalleled microclimate.
The crafting of Domaine de la Vougeraie Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot reflects a pursuit of precision and balance. Following a delicate pneumatic pressing, fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks and is completed in oak barrels, adding complexity without overshadowing the identity of the place. The ageing process extends over 15 months in large foudres, followed by an additional 3 months in stainless steel, refining the wine and preserving its natural freshness.
This gem belongs to Domaine de la Vougeraie, one of the most esteemed estates in Burgundy, based in Premeaux-Prissey. Since 1990, the project has been under the stewardship of Jean-Charles Boisset, who decided to unite the finest family vineyards into a single estate. Today, the estate is a true mosaic of 74 plots covering 42 hectares, cultivated with an ecological philosophy and profound respect for the vineyard.
This vision, grounded in precision, sensitivity, and fidelity to the terroir, is expressed with particular clarity in Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot. Extraordinary, profound, and full of nuances, it is a white wine that demonstrates that even in the land of great reds, there are corners where white reaches legendary dimensions.
