Romanée-Conti is undoubtedly one of the most revered names in the wine world. An absolute symbol of tradition, excellence, and exclusivity. Therefore, when we speak of a project created by Aubert de Villaine, director and co-owner of Romanée-Conti, further introductions are unnecessary because, without a doubt, the quality is assured.
Situated in Bouzeron, to the north of the Côte-Chalonnaise in Burgundy, Domaine de Villaine is an estate that Aubert and his wife Pamela acquired in 1971 and is now managed by their nephew Pierre de Benoist with the same passion as his uncle and aunt. Since 1986, this vineyard has committed to organic viticulture, respecting the land and striving for each grape to authentically express its origin.
The Domaine boasts plots scattered across Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, and Santenay, planted with aligoté, chardonnay, and pinot noir, the classic varieties that bring to life wines with a Burgundian soul. Among them, Grésigny Rully 1er Cru stands out, a wine with deep roots in a plot leased since 2011, located to the southwest of the Rully appellation.
The name “Grésigny” derives from the Burgundian dialect and means “small and swift hill”, a perfect image for this place where chardonnay vines, some over 80 years old, cling tenaciously to marl-limestone soils. A very special terroir that, combined with the area's unique climate, allows the wine to reveal a complexity and freshness that captivates those who taste it.
For its production, Domaine de Villaine Rully 1er Cru Grésigny ferments and matures for 12 months in traditional Burgundy barrels, working on its fine lees with 20% new oak that adds elegance without overshadowing the wine's natural character.
Domaine de Villaine Rully 1er Cru Grésigny is a chardonnay that captures the essence of a unique terroir, whispers tales of century-old vines, and reflects the passion passed down through generations. Under the wise stewardship of the Villaine family, this white wine demonstrates that true excellence is not dependent on a single location, but on the love, respect, and dedication found in every corner of Burgundy.
