About Domaine Delaporte Sancerre Les Monts Damnés

Experts say that wine and cheese are not good companions if you want to enjoy every detail of each of the products. Hence the Spanish expression “que no te la den con queso” (which means literally “don’t let them serve it to you with cheese”, “don’t be fooled”. However, rules aside, what better snack than a good wine with some cheese? Chavignol, a charming village in Sancerre, in the Loire Valley, knows how to make the best of this pairing with its famous “Crottin de Chavignol.” This cheese, although its name literally means ‘horse poo’ because of its shape, is a delicious nibble with a goaty and spicy flavour. It also goes very well with the local white wines produced by the Delaporte family in the same municipality.

This domaine has been passed down from parents to children since the 17th century. Since 2010, Matthieu Delaporte has been running the estate and working to constantly improve the wines with a more organic and sustainable approach. His Domaine Delaporte Sancerre Les Monts Damnés wine is an example of this. Sourced from the estate’s 33 hectares, these are Sauvignon Blanc vines planted in Kimmeridgian loam soil (a combination of clay and shells). Undoubtedly one of the most famous terroirs of the AOC Sancerre where Delaporte is working hard to restructure the whole estate towards organic cultivation. Using respectful agriculture and manual work, he produces a fine and flavoursome grape that reaches the winery intact and in optimal conditions. In the winery, the whole bunches are gently pressed and the resulting must is placed in 600-litre barrels for 12 months, during which time it ferments with native yeasts and rests on the lees.

Considering that Sancerre is thought to be one of the best white wines in the world and that Delaporte enjoys one of the most prestigious soils in the AOC, there is no doubt that Domaine Delaporte Sancerre Les Monts Damnés is a wine that is not to be missed, with or without cheese.

Domaine Delaporte Sancerre Les Monts Damnés 2018 is a white wine with intense aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, balsamic notes and floral hints. On the palate it is flavoursome, juicy and delicate. A wine full of fruit, with a subtle spicy touch and a very gentle woodiness.
