Tasting notes Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol 2012
Red wine Biodynamic.
Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol 2012 is a ripe, complex and delicious red. The nose is fruity, combining flowers (violets) with cherry and spicy notes. This intensity is maintained on the palate, where it is elegant and fine. Great personality. Vibrant and with great aging potential.

About Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol
A bottle of 1964 Château Margaux changed his life. At that time, he was 12 years old and his father used to buy Premiers Grands Crus Classés whenever they had something to celebrate. On one of these occasions, after a light tasting of the glass, Fabien Duperray declared to his entire family that when he grew up, he would become a wine merchant and winemaker. And that’s exactly what he did. Almost half a century later, he has succeeded and with flying colours, becoming not only one of the best négociants in Burgundy (where he has always opted for the most obscure and original wines), but also as a winemaker, managing to take the name of the Beaujolais appellations to the top with his winery Domaine Jules Desjourneys. Here’s an example: Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol.
In the north, on the edge of the Moulin-á-Vent AOC, you will find Chassignol, one of the 71 lieux-dits that are part of this appellation. Those located to the north are found on sandy and granitic soils. Those located in the south, on the other hand, are more clayey and calcareous. Be that as it may, this small piece of land is only one of the pieces of this great puzzle in which more than 300 types of soils have been recorded in this region. This small detail of the nature of the soil is tremendously important, since the crop to be grown there will be established depending on it, and will help the winegrowers to know the needs of each vineyard. In the case of Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol, the gamay grapes are grown in old vineyards (over 50 years old) and are cared for biodynamically, with manual labour, selection of the best bunches and without the use of any chemical products. Low vine yields are also key for Fabien Duperray, who is clear that ‘working the land takes priority over winemaking.’ This principle also explains why the Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol winery has minimal intervention, allowing the wine to ferment and age for long periods of time before bottling.
More than fifty years ago, a bottle of wine determined Fabien Duperray’s life. Now yours may change with Domaine Jules Desjourneys Moulin à Vent Chassignol. Just uncork it and find out. Why not try it and see what happens?
