White wine.

Domaine Jules Desjourneys Pouilly-Loché 2018 is a creamy and mineral white, very powerful and well-defined, with a lot of complexity on both the nose and the palate. In the first phase of the tasting we find a bright golden colour that leaves the nose with notes of fresh fruit (orange), white flowers and fresh bread. Finally, the palate is concentrated, with a very lively acidity and a savoury smoothness. Long and saline finish. Simply brilliant!

About Domaine Jules Desjourneys Pouilly-Loché

There has never been a denomination so small and so large at the same time. It may be true that the vineyards of the Pouilly-Lochés AOC are not the largest in Burgundy (only about 34 hectares), but their quality, dynamism and activity are the most promising in the region.

Just 5 km southwest of Mâcon, the Pouilly-Lochés AOC has one of the most varied and complex terroirs in the Mâconnais. Different geological fault lines from the Mesozoic era – rich in shale, sandstone, clay, iron and lime – are abundant in this area where chardonnay achieves its most original nuances. Fabien Duperray’s Domaine Jules Desjourneys Pouilly-Loché, a single varietal chardonnay, is able to enhance them and bring out the best in them.

This producer, accompanied by Christophe Thibert, came to this area in the south of Burgundy (in eastern France) to find the best plots from which to make his wines. This wine merchant has had his eyes on this appellation since 2014, seven years after starting out as a winemaker. Here, and in the rest of his farms, he always follows biodynamic principles, carrying out work on the land manually, without using chemical products and always controlling yields (which are usually very low). Sometimes, despite its temperate oceanic climate, Domaine Jules is the last property in the area to harvest, always hoping to be able to pick the bunches at their peak of ripeness. Mâcconais is one of the southernmost areas of Burgundy where the highest temperatures are recorded.

The determining factor in Domaine Jules Desjourneys Pouilly-Loché will be its long aging in stainless steel tanks and in the bottle. Here this wine will rest, developing the full potential of this small appellation. Experts say that the best perfumes come in small bottles. The same is true of Domaine Jules Desjourneys Pouilly-Loché. Never have such small vineyards produced such a great wine.
