About Domaine Lafage Gallica

“Gallica” is a category of old roses that are known for their beauty and charm. These roses originated in Europe and have been cultivated since ancient times. They have a rich history and are prized for their fragrance, vibrant colours and classic flower shapes. It is thanks to this beauty and their symbolic meaning that they have been immortalised in numerous paintings, poems and literary works throughout history. A flower once found in the gardens of Mas Miraflors, home of Domaine Lafage in Canet, Roussillon (France), the current owners have made a wine in its honour.

Jean-Marc Lafage, seventh generation of one of the most respected families of vignerons in Languedoc-Roussillon, together with his wife Éliane, have worked out how to bring value to this wine region in the south of France by focussing on local grape varieties and the diversity of terroirs between the sea and the mountains. This is how this Domaine Lafage Gallica was born, a rosé wine made of Mourvèdre from a terroir near the sea, Red Grenache from hundred-year-old vines in Aspres and Grenache Gris and Syrah from the upper Agly valley. All work in the vineyard is biodynamic and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. Once in the winery, the best grapes are selected and destemmed to begin a light pressing and maceration on the lees for one month. Alcoholic fermentation is then carried out in stainless steel tanks and wooden vats and the wine is aged on the lees for 4 months in the same wooden containers.

A clear reference to a flower that has won over the most sophisticated hearts for centuries, Domaine Lafage Gallica is a rosé wine that really shows off the AOC Côtes-du-Roussillon. A denomination in the Roussillon region where the combination of sea and mountain together with Lafage’s expertise provide this wine with a unique sensory beauty.
