About Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles

Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles is a monovarietal Gamay red wine from the AOC Chiroubles produced by Domaine Lafarge-Vial.

Domaine Lafarge-Vial is a small winery located in Fleurie, Beaujolais. It bears the surnames of Frédéric and Chantal, of the couple that run it. They also have another winery in Côte de Beaune, but decided to set out on this southern adventure in 2014. Today they have several plots that together total 4.1 hectares. They cultivate them organically and biodynamically, and vinify according to the tradition of the area so that the grape fully expresses the terroir from which it comes.

The plot of Gamay for Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles is a small 0.35 hectare vineyard facing south and southeast. The strains were planted in 1960 and are found in granite soils. They are cultivated organically and biodynamically, but are still awaiting certification.

To produce Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles, 15-20% of the whole bunches are vatted and the rest are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in cement tanks and operations are carried out to gently extract aromas and colour. Lastly the wine undergoes a one-year ageing in old 228 and 350 litre barrels and during this period only one decanting is performed.

2017 Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles 2017 reveals a very pleasant nose with aromas of black cherries, sweet pepper and violets. On the palate it is impregnated with red fruit, and this wine exudes a harmony that combines aromatic intensity and freshness.
