About Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé Les Chenes

Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé Les Chenes is a biodynamic, barrel-aged white wine made with the Chardonnay variety by Domaine Leflaive in the AOC Mâcon-Verzé (Burgundy).

The Leflaive family has lived in the prestigious Mâcon-Verzé region since 1717 but it wasn’t until 1904, when Joseph Leflaive took over, that the wines started gaining a reputation. This prestige reached an all-time high with Anna-Claude Leflaive. When she took over the family domain in 1990, she decided to use healthy organic soil and made all the vineyards biodynamic, including ten hectares of premier crus and five hectares of grand crus. Today, Brice de la Morandière, great-grandson of the founder Joseph Leflaive and current head of the domain, follows in the footsteps of Anne-Claude.

Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé Les Chenes comes from old vines planted on calcareous clay soil from a single, very special vineyard called Les Chenes. The vines have an average age of 30 years old, they lie about 300 metres above sea level and they are cultivated using biodynamic agriculture, without herbicides or chemical fertilisers. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

When the Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé Les Chenes grapes reach the winery, they ferment and age in a mixture of tanks. Some of the wine is placed in stainless steel tanks, some in concrete, and a final 10% spends 18 months in French oak barrels before being bottled.

Made by one of the best Burgundy white wine producers in the Côte de Beaune area, Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé Les Chenes is a very pure, floral and mineral Chardonnay.

2017 Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé Les Chenes 2017 is a creamy white wine with floral aromas, white and citrus fruits and a touch of freshly baked bread. On the palate it is elegant, fresh and very lively.
