About Domaine Roland Lavantureux Chablis Vauprin

When one contemplates Burgundy, the mind instinctively drifts to legendary names: Romanée-Conti, Meursault, Chambertin... illustrious labels that are almost synonymous with luxury. Yet there exists another Burgundy, quieter, more genuine, where the soul of the wine is not measured by its price but by its character. This place is Chablis, a landscape of rolling hills and cold winds, so close to Champagne that it might almost speak the same language.

It was in the 1960s that Marine and Gervais Lavantureux began crafting wine for friends. There was no grand plan or commercial strategy, just a desire to share what their land produced. What they did not anticipate was that their wines would become so popular that orders began to extend beyond the village, first to Auxerre, then to Paris… and eventually worldwide.

Over the years, their son Roland decided to take a further step: to bottle the wine under his own name and expand the family estate. Today, their grandchildren Arnaud and David Lavantureux continue the legacy, remaining true to the original philosophy: minimal intervention, maximum expression of the terroir.

Thus, we arrive at Chablis Vauprin, one of their most personal treasures. It hails from plots located on the southeast-facing slopes of Vauprin, where the chardonnay captures all the morning light and the coolness of the wind. The clay-limestone soil imparts the typical mineral tension of Chablis, but here there is something more: a sense of balance between purity and depth.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, but the ageing process combines steel and new oak barrels, half and half. The result is a wine that retains all the freshness of white fruit and the saline touch of the soil, yet with a creamy and enveloping structure. It is a Chablis with the soul of a Premier Cru, a wine that does not seek to draw attention, but once tasted… it is unforgettable.
