About Domaine Tempier Cabassaou

The life of Lucie Tempier, aka Lulu, could easily be the inspiration for a Netflix series. She lived a long life of 102 years combining housework and winery work like few others. A mother of 7 children, with her husband Lucien Peyroud, they worked tirelessly to make Provençal wines famous at the legendary Domaine Tempier estate that she inherited as a gift from her father on their wedding day in 1936. Since then they have not only replanted the vineyards with varieties like Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Garnacha, but they have also travelled around the world to learn about foreign techniques and wines and to promote their own. Creators of the AOC Bandol, Lulu is a key figure in Provence’s winemaking history. This legacy reached its peak with her son Jean-Marie when, in 1960, he began bottling the cuvées from the different estates separately: La Migoua, La Tourtine and Cabassaou, where Tempier’s current prestige started.

One of these vineyards, “Cabassaou” is where Domaine Tempier Cabassaou comes from. This is an exceptional terroir where old Mourvèdre and Syrah vines are planted on sandstone and marl with gypsum on the surface. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and no chemical products that could harm the environment. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery, fermentation takes place with native yeasts and aging happens in foudres for 18 months.  

Domaine Tempier Cabassaou has become a regional leader in Provence. A long-lasting, elegant and balanced wine, the result of the combination of an exceptional terroir with old vines and the skill of the Peyroud family.

 

2018

Domaine Tempier Cabassaou 2018 is a concentrated red wine with a very complex aromatic palate of black fruits, notes of forest herbs and hints of sweet spice. On the palate it is silky, opulent and elegant. A cuvée with firm tannins and great aging potential.
