About Domaine Tempier La Migoua

Richard Olney, acclaimed food writer, dedicated a book to the matriarch of this prestigious Provençal winery: “Lulu's Provençal table: the exuberant food and wine from the Domaine Tempier vineyard” This woman, over the course of her 102 years of life, attracted culinary titans from all over the world and showed them a new side to Provence’s food and wine. Together with her husband Lucien Peyroud and their 7 children, she knew how to champion the quality of Provençal wines better than anyone and was influential in the creation of the AOC Bandol. Today, she is remembered not only for the great cuvées that the winery continues to produce from exceptional vineyards, but also for the hospitality, passion, curiosity and genuine kindness that surrounded each of the feasts she hosted at the historic estate.

Among their memorable wines is Domaine Tempier La Migoua, a wine from 11 hectares of 40-year-old vines, surrounded by wild scrubland and set at an altitude of 300 metres on very complex soils of limestone, dolomite and dedo-lomite. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and the grape bunches are selected by hand in the vineyard. In the winery, the Murvèdre grapes and some Cinsault, Garnacha and Syrah grapes are destemmed, crushed and placed in concrete vats for 3 or 4 weeks to ferment with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in foudres for at least 18 months before being bottled.

Considered the winery’s wildest cuvée, Domaine Tempier La Migoua is a concentrated red wine that is fruit-driven and herbaceous but immensely drinkable. A great Provençal gem!

2018

Domaine Tempier La Migoua 2018 is a concentrated red wine with complex aromas of ripe black fruit over a herbal background and spicy notes. On the palate it is full-bodied, silky and elegant. A medium to full-bodied wine with a weighty fruit base, bright acidity and a lingering finish. A wine to age for at least 5 to 20 years.
