Dominio del Challao Blanco 2021 is a white wine characterised by its maturity and subtle body. About Dominio del Challao Blanco

Although you may have heard the saying "two's company, three's a crowd" more than once, especially in the business world, for the Michelini i Mufatto family, three is a magical number. This project, born out of happiness and free from any constraints, began with a unique vision of an exceptional place: the Uco Valley, specifically Gualtallary, in Argentina.

Despite the differing perspectives and approaches of each of its members, as Gerardo expresses: “My wife Andrea brings sensitivity, I provide the long-term vision, and my son Manu contributes the study, observation of the world, and youthful vigour.” This familial union and dedication have allowed them to establish themselves as one of the most respected wineries in their country and have given them the strength to try their luck across the pond, specifically in Bierzo (Spain), where they have garnered high scores for each of their creations.

But the story doesn't end there. In 2018, Manu Michelini, driven by his desire to forge his own path, travelled to the Rioja Alavesa and discovered the ideal place to develop his personal project. Thus, in 2019, alongside Carlos Fernández (Bodegas Tierra), he brought Dominio del Challao to life, a project that reflects his unique vision of the terroir of Labastida, a pivotal village in the DOCa Rioja and in global viticulture.

Through Dominio del Challao, Manu seeks to convey the essence of that exceptional place, with absolute respect for the local viticultural heritage. Dominio del Challao Blanco, a single-varietal wine from old macabeo vines cultivated under biodynamic principles, is one of these dreams realised. The vines, planted in clay soils, yield a wine that reflects the purity and authenticity of the terroir. The winery, located in the upper part of the village, preserves the 12th-century caves that provide perfect conditions of temperature and humidity. There, the grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts and age for two years in French oak barrels, resulting in a wine of great complexity and elegance.

Manu, with his fresh perspective and youthful energy, has succeeded in imprinting his own interpretation of viticulture on this personal initiative, always true to the values of the initial project with his parents, yet with an identity of his own that allows him to explore new horizons. Dominio del Challao Blanco is undoubtedly a reflection of his passion for the terroir and his desire to preserve and reinterpret an invaluable viticultural legacy.
