About Du Grappin Mâcon-Villages

There is no better assurance that a wine is exceptional than witnessing its creators speak passionately about their work. This is precisely the case with Emma and Andrew Nielsen, an Australian couple who founded Le Grappin in 2011 amidst the hills of Burgundy, France. This artisanal venture, with a nomadic spirit, is deeply committed to respecting the land and supporting small-scale winegrowers.

Andrew arrived in Burgundy after five years of honing his skills alongside some of the most renowned names in pinot noir and chardonnay across California, Central Otago, the Yarra Valley, and, naturally, Burgundy itself. Emma joined in 2015, bringing her expertise in marketing, project management, and events. Today, Le Grappin is a small and enchanting estate nestled in the hills of Meloisey, steadfastly adhering to its philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum expressiveness.

One of their most recent wines is the Du Grappin Mâcon-Villages, a chardonnay originating from the cool slopes of Azé, cultivated from organic vineyards aged between 30 and 80 years.

In the winery, the wine is crafted with meticulous care. Hand harvesting, gentle crushing, prolonged pressing, natural fermentation in large barrels with the solids, aging on lees for 12 months followed by an additional 6 months in stainless steel. Finally, it is bottled unclarified with minimal filtration.

As a result, they present us with Du Grappin Mâcon-Villages, a vibrant white wine, brimming with texture, freshness, and tension. It is an honest reflection of its origin in AOC Mâcon-Villages, as well as of its creators.

Du Grappin Mâcon-Villages 2022 is a white wine that captivates with its vibrant and genuine character. On the nose, it reveals irresistible aromas of fresh strawberries and cherries, complemented by a subtle hint of vanilla blossom. Upon tasting, its entry is smooth and creamy, unveiling juicy flavours of ripe peach balanced with an elegant hint of lemon on the finish. A fresh, vibrant wine with a truly honest personality.
