About En Voz Baja El Outsider

En Voz Baja El Outsider is a sophisticated natural red wine crafted by the esteemed winery En Voz Baja within the prestigious D.O.Ca. Rioja, utilizing the noble red garnacha grape variety.

En Voz Baja is an intimate venture initiated by Carlos Mazo in the heart of La Rioja Baja. A young and passionate vigneron, Carlos, alongside his wife Isa, are at the forefront of pioneering a novel approach to winemaking, championing the revival of age-old traditions and exercising minimal intervention in their methods.

The vineyards of En Voz Baja El Outsider are nestled in Aldeanueva de Ebro, some 14 km from Alfaro in the Rioja Baja region. This unique terroir is characterized by ancient vines strewn with a multitude of pebbles within the soil. The vine cultivation is entirely manual and organic, eschewing the use of herbicides or pesticides, while adhering to time-honored viticultural practices. Harvesting too is carried out by hand at the peak of the grapes' ripeness.

Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes of En Voz Baja El Outsider are gently foot-trodden before undergoing spontaneous fermentation with a portion of the stems, utilizing indigenous yeasts in open barrels. Subsequently, the wine is matured in sizeable glass demijohns and is bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulfites.

En Voz Baja El Outsider stands as a testament to the new wave of Riojan winemakers who are reviving ancestral methods while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the environment. A truly artisanal 'garage wine' produced in the old-fashioned way.

The Outsider 2019 is a succulent red wine endowed with delightful aromas of ripe fruit, complemented by herbaceous undertones and spicy hints. On the palate, it is vibrant, light, and eminently quaffable. This wine boasts a dazzling acidity and pronounced tannins.

2018 El Outsider 2018 is a juicy red wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruit and pleasant balsamic notes. On the palate it is a sweet, intense wine with slightly astringent tannins.
