About Elio Altare Barolo

Elio Altare Barolo is a red wine, barrel made by Elio Altare at DOCG Barolo (Piedmont) with the native variety Nebbiolo.

Elio Altare is well-known for giving DOCG Barolo a new perspective based on sustainable crops and low-intervention winemaking. Wines made in the best crus of Barolo which know how to interpret with great mastery the identity of the prestigious Piedmont territory of the Langhe and, above all, give it a modern and international character.

Elio Altare Barolo is a wine which comes from vineyards of between 20 and 30 years old planted in soils of varied composition of loam, clay and sand. Respectful agriculture is practiced and no synthetic chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides are used. Harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

In cellars the selected Elio Altare Barolo grapes macerate in their skins at a controlled temperature for 4 or 5 days. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and the wine ages in used French barrels for 24 months.

Fruit of the passion and charisma of one of the winemakers which has known how to renew the DOCG Barolo like no other, Elio Altare Barolo is a glorious red wine with a modern spirit.

2018 The Elio Altare Barolo 2018 is a warm and sophisticated red wine that exudes enticing floral scents reminiscent of violets and rose petals on the nose, along with delightful fruity notes of black cherries, complemented by earthy undertones. On the palate, it glides with smooth, yet suggestive tannins and a pronounced but well-balanced acidity. This red wine will undoubtedly improve with age, rewarding those with the patience to wait with a delightful surprise.
2016

Elio Altare Barolo 2016 is a richly concentrated red wine brimming with aromas of strawberries, cherries, and redcurrants, interwoven with hints of violet flowers and nuanced spicy undertones. On the palate, it is velvety, flavourful, and exquisitely elegant. This wine boasts refined tannins and a lively acidity. The finish is extensive, with a highly fragrant back nose and an excellent potential for bottle maturation.

 

 
2015 Elio Altare Barolo 2015 is a concentrated red wine with elegant aromas of red berries, subtle hints of spices and violet notes. On the palate it’s tannic, silky and sensual. A warm and well-structured flavor with a persistent and aroma-rich finish. Exceptionally good bottle aging.
