About Emilien Feneuil Les Puits Rosé de Maceration

Breaking with convention may involve having ideas or behaviours that differ from the norm, questioning established traditions or working in an unconventional way. This can generate a sense of liberation and authenticity, allowing you to explore different processing techniques and find a unique identity. In the case of Emilien Feneuil, a new generation vigneron located in the village of Sermiers, in the Montagne de Reims (Champagne), he was even treated as a madman at the beginning for working the family vineyards in a totally different way than his father and the neighbouring farmers up to that point. To begin with, he rejects the traditional method and eliminates any use of chemical products that could damage the natural balance of the terroir. On the contrary, he embraces the ancestral techniques that his grandfather had already used, not only to sell organic grapes to the most prestigious vignerons in the area, but also to embark on the adventure of making his own wines.

Emilien Feneuil Les Puits Rosé de Maceration is a sparkling rosé from a vineyard located in the village of Ecueil under the name "Les Puits". Pinot noir vines with an average age of 40 years are planted on sandy-clay soil with limestone bedrock underneath. The grapes are grown organically with biodynamic treatments and harvested by hand at the optimum moment of ripening. Then in the cellar, the grapes macerate for 24 hours and fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in 228-litre used Burgundy barrels and 400-litre Côte de Beaune barrels (5–6 years). Once the wine is made, it undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle where it remains on the lees for 48 months before disgorgement "à la volée".

Unfiltered, unclarified and without dosage, Emilien Feneuil Les Puits Rosé de Maceration is a champagne that is out of the ordinary. A single-vineyard rosé that begs to be tasted as it was made; calmly, patiently and unconventionally.
