There are wines that come into being through meticulous planning, and others, the most captivating ones, through serendipity and obsession. The story of Florpower begins in December 2005, when a group of aficionados of the Marco de Jerez encountered something unexpected: some old natural amontillado casks that had been lying dormant for no less than twenty years, without being marketed. That visit did not end with a mere nostalgic tasting. Driven by emotion and reverence for what they had discovered, they decided to purchase the contents of one of those casks and bottle it for a select circle of friends. Unknowingly, they were sowing the seeds of one of the most distinctive sagas in contemporary Andalusian wine.
From that experience was born the spirit—and the name—of La Bota de Florpower; the power of the flor, the layer of flor as a living, transformative, and almost rebellious force. This white, delicate layer that floats atop the wine not only shields it from oxygen but also imbues it with character, vitality, and an unmistakable identity. Here, there are no artifices or fortifications; the flor reigns.
Equipo Navazos La Bota de Florpower Nº 119 is the latest expression of this philosophy. Florpower 119 is an unfortified white wine that shares its DNA with previous vintages. It is a consistent thread of coherence, patience, and fidelity to its origin.
The wine is made entirely from palomino fino grapes from an exceptional vineyard in Sanlúcar, located in Pago Miraflores La Baja, with old vines aged between 55 and 85 years. It ferments directly in casks and, without changing its abode, continues its ageing for 8 months under the veil of flor before being drawn off and bottled.
Equipo Navazos La Bota de Florpower Nº 119 is a wine that speaks softly yet conveys much. Saline, profound, vibrant, with that distinctive tension characteristic of Sanlúcar and the sensation of drinking something alive, in motion.
