About Escabeces Vermell

If there is one thing that defines Tarragona, it is its diversity. A land of contrasts where Mediterranean and continental influences coexist harmoniously, resulting in a great wealth of soils and microclimates. Amid such viticultural expansiveness, discovering a unique variety is a true find.

This is the case with xarel·lo vermell, also known as cartoixà vermell or cartoixà marí, a Mediterranean grape with a pinkish skin that takes us back to the rosés of yesteryear. Fresh, austere wines with moderate alcohol content, crafted for enjoyment at the table, as past generations did.

From this singular grape comes Escabeces Vermell, a wine that reflects both the character of the territory and the vision of its creators. Behind this project are renowned names in the wine world: Oriol Pérez Tudela, Mercè Salvat, René Barbier, and Sara Pérez, who, under the label of Vinyes del Tiet Pere, have committed to reviving this vinous gem with a unique interpretation.

Escabeces Vermell not only stands out for its variety but also for its meticulous craftsmanship. Vinified as a red with ageing, the must remains in contact with the skins, developing structure and depth before being refined in clay amphorae. This ancient method imparts texture, elegance, and an unmistakable identity. The result is a wine of very limited production, making it a genuine enological rarity.
