Tasting notes Escarpment Chardonnay 2021
White wine Aged in wood. 11 meses en barrica and 4 months in an inox tank.
Escarpment Chardonnay 2021 is a very defined, mineral and highly complex white wine full of nuances. The nose is tremendously varied, with notes of citrus (grapefruit), nectarine, spices (ginger) and nuts (hazelnuts). On the palate, you’ll notice its conspicuous yet tasty acidity, which, far from displeasing, in fact invites you to take another sip. Long and lingering. A real delight.

About Escarpment Chardonnay
Martinborough, one of the three most important wine regions of Wairapa (on the North Island of New Zealand) awakens passions. Its warm climate, with low rainfall and nights that provide humidity and cool the temperature of the vineyards, have made this area one of the most recognized and loved by wine enthusiasts. Still don't know what we’re talking about? Escarpment Chardonnay is the best way to discover it for yourself.
Escarpment Chardonnay is a special wine, a unique manifestation that winemaker Tim Bourne and winegrower Rowan Hoskins have been working on for over 35 years. After all, capturing and transmitting these sensations is the ultimate goal of this winery. Just one glass of Escarpment Chardonnay guarantees a mind-blowing journey through the property's 24 hectares, located on the banks of the Huangarua River on alluvial loam soils that were formed more than 20,000 years ago. Without a doubt, an experience in and of itself. For all its creations, Escarpment uses grapes from its own vineyards as well as grapes from small family producers located in the town of Martinborough, with whom the winery has maintained friendships and a great relationship for many years. This supply of external grapes does not represent any kind of compromise of the quality of the bunches. Normally, the grapes ripen properly (slowly and in good time) thanks to the cool climate and low amount of rainfall. When rain does fall (at an average of 700 mm per year), the water does not usually remain for long, since the soils have good drainage, thus eliminating the water and maintaining the optimum humidity necessary for growth.
Escarpment Chardonnay is fermented in French oak puncheons (larger than traditional barrels). And that’s all there is to it. No malolactic fermentation, no acidification. All that is involved is aging for a further eleven months in barrels and four months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Escarpment Chardonnay grows in the Te Muna vineyard, which in Maori means secret or special place. So keep this secret to yourself and don't tell anyone. This can stay between you, us and a nice glass of Escarpment Chardonnay.
