The viticultural elite has been unable to resist its allure! Raúl Pérez, César Márquez, Peique, Michelini & Mufatto, Diego Magaña, and other prominent figures have succumbed to its charm. The secret? El Rapolao, the crown jewel of Bierzo and the most sought-after mencía in the region. Thus, when the Estévez family acquires grapes from a local producer in this legendary location, they not only pay tribute to their grandfather Antonio, who inspired this venture, but they also underscore the significance of this land that has captivated distinguished thinkers, writers, and poets, including Antonio Estévez himself.

As one of the most renowned sites in Valtuille de Abajo and the coolest spot in the village, they present Estévez Bodegas y Viñedos Versos Rapolao. A monovarietal mencía from 90-year-old vines planted in red clay soils rich in iron, cultivated with environmentally conscious farming practices that preserve the exceptional qualities of this unique terroir. In the winery, the grapes undergo fermentation with 25% whole cluster in open stainless steel tanks of 1,000 liters using indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, it undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures in well-seasoned, neutral 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months.

Integrated into the range of wines that the Estévez family has created in tribute to their relative Antonio Estévez, a writer who was forced to flee to Mexico due to persecution by the Francoist regime, Estévez Bodegas y Viñedos Versos Rapolao is the result of a mythical terroir of Bierzo's viticulture. A mencía that, as the family themselves declare, is pure poetry.
