About Fattoria Nannì Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Origini Riserva

A few years ago, not so many, the young Roberto Cantori decided to venture into winemaking. His journey began in Arsicci, a village in the countryside of Apiro, in the Marche region (in eastern Italy), where the first thing he did was adamantly refuse to uproot the old vineyards that Gianni Piersigilli (the former owner) had planted in 1967. Thus, with roots firmly entrenched in the past, Fattoria Nannì was established. Entirely organic, and always striving for minimal environmental impact, Roberto Cantori has managed to position himself as one of the most intriguing producers in the current scene with his unique creation, the Fattoria Nannì Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Origini Riserva, a single-varietal Verdicchio aged on its lees. 
 
In total, Fattoria Nannì encompasses 19 hectares; five of these are dedicated to vineyards, where only the Verdicchio variety is cultivated. The vines thrive on gentle hills of calcareous soils, at an altitude of about 450 metres, in DOC Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, nestled between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, which exerts a significant influence with its maritime breeze. Evidently, all the work on this estate is carried out by hand and in an artisanal manner, thereby achieving the most sustainable production imaginable. 
 
The whole clusters of Fattoria Nannì Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Origini Riserva are harvested in boxes and swiftly transported to the winery, where they will spend a night in cold storage. This process prepares the batch for destemming and pressing, which will be conducted in an oxygen-free environment. After creating a pied de cuve, Fattoria Nannì Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Origini Riserva begins to ferment. The journey will culminate with maturation on fine lees (for approximately one year) and a six-month rest in the bottle before being released to the market. 
 
One cannot look to the future without a clear understanding of the past, and Roberto Cantori made a wise decision by documenting this chapter of history so well. Only in this way could the journey of Fattoria Nannì Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico Origini Riserva reach a successful conclusion.
