Felton Road Pinot Noir Calvert is a biodynamic, barrel-aged red wine made with the Pinot Noir variety by the New Zealand winery Felton Road in Central Otego (South Island).
Located in the world’s most southern wine region, Felton Road is an innovative winery whose Pinot Noir and Riesling wines are on par with those made in the best regions in the world. The winery has a total of 32 hectares of vineyards that are worked according to biodynamic principles and vinified with the utmost respect for the grape.
The Felton Road Pinot Noir Calvert grapes come from soils with deep silt and loess on the surface. The vineyards lie in small microclimates and are completely surrounded by high mountains. The days are hot and the nights are cool. Biodynamic agriculture is used, with cover crops between rows to maintain humidity and preserve the natural balance of the strain and the terroir. The harvest is carried out manually to guarantee optimum quality fruit.
The Felton Road Pinot Noir Calvert grapes are gently destemmed, leaving approximately 25% of the bunches whole. After resting for 8-10 days, fermentation begins with native yeasts and the skins for 21-23 days. The wine then ages in oak barrels, 30% of which are new, for 16 months, and is racked twice. It is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Because this winery enjoys the perfect weather conditions for the Pinot Noir variety, Felton Road Pinot Noir Calvert is its most iconic wine. An intensely fragrant red wine.
