Tasting notes Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico 2017

Red wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 18 meses en barrica and 12 meses en botella.

Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico 2017 unveils an extensive aromatic palette where ripe cooked blackberries and chocolate take centre stage, complemented by toasted notes reminiscent of its time in oak barrels. Upon tasting, the firm tannic structure combines with a refreshing acidity, creating a perfect balance with the warm touch of alcohol. This full-bodied wine showcases an impressive concentration of fruit flavours that culminate in a smoky, lingering finish. The 2017 vintage was generous, offering a wine that is immensely enjoyable now but also promises to evolve gracefully over time. Ideal for those seeking wines with character and depth.

About Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico

Century-old vineyards, considered the start of everything else. The beginning of everything. The introduction to something great. The start of emotion. In the heart of Avellino, in the Campania region, centuries-old vines bring life to the D.O.C. Irpinia Aglianico. Still not sure what we’re talking about? Well, you’re a bit behind. Have a glass of Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico and read on.

In the south of Italy, very close to the heel of the boot, lies this historic region at the foot of the Apennines, where there have always been vineyards. Pliny, Columella and Strabo spoke of these plants and their grapes, which are perfect for making wine. Today, centuries later, some companies like Feudi di San Gregorio are working hard to revive them. The protagonists of this story are undoubtedly the Greco, Fiano, Falanghina and Aglianico, varieties that are native to the area that have remained perennial (despite the passing of time and passing trends) on volcanic soils and in a sunny and rainy climate (which have made it one of the most fertile regions of Italy). In ancient times this land was known as Campania Felix, which translates as fertile land. And it is still making us happy with its wines. The great history of this region is made up of many other smaller stories of people who have managed to maintain and keep a tradition. Now they all come together in Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico.

Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico grows in the historic Dal Re vineyard and is harvested quickly to be taken to the winery. Here, before fermentation, the grapes are processed and left to macerate in stainless steel tanks for three to four weeks. During this time, the yeasts have plenty of opportunity to start doing their thing, turning the must into wine. After this time Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico spends a minimum of eighteen months in French oak barrels (medium toast) and another twelve months in the bottle.

If the Iripina region had a flavour, it would undoubtedly be that of Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico. So let yourself go and travel to the very heart of southern Italy. We can guarantee you won’t regret it.

The nose is very varied, a melody where cherries, sweet spices, liquorice, cocoa and coffee mingle. The palate is strong and very powerful, mineral and very persistent. Delicious finish.
