About Finca Viladellops Xarel·lo

Finca Viladellops Xarel.lo is a white wine produced by the winery Finca Viladellops, in the D.O. Penedés. The winery is located in the Macizo del Garraf, in the municipal of Olérdola (Barcelona).
 

Finca Viladellops Xarel.lo is a blend of the varietal Xarel·lo (divided in 2 separate estates) and Xarel·lo Rojo, a type of grape that is currently used in very few vineyards.
 

The vines are planted in calcareous-clay soils cultivated using eco-friendly methods to protect the environment. The winery therefore has the certificate from the Consell Català de la producció Agrària Ecológica. During the harvest, the grape receives two selection processes: in the vineyard and in the winery.

For production the grapes are macerated at 3-5ºC and then fermented in 400l French oak barrels. In the same barrels, Finca Viladellops Xarel·lo is aged in its lees with periodic bâtonnages. Finally, after a selection of the best barrels, the final blend is made in stainless steel containers, where the wine will remain with its lees until it is bottled. 

2012 A fresh, balanced and complex wine. It shows a good, serious and bulky attack followed by a silky, unctuous and tasty mid palate marked by a deep salinity highlighted by an inviting acidity. Long and persistent finish.

Beautiful bright and clean pale golden colour. Very thin and elegant tears.

A white wine with clean nose, with a high intensity, in which floral aromas stand out along with some butter hints, aromatic herbs and toasted notes. In the background, a suggestive minerality appears.
2011 It shows a good, serious and bulky attack followed by a silky, unctuous and tasty mid palate marked by a deep salinity highlighted by an inviting acidity. Long and persistent finish. A fresh, balanced and complex Spanish wine. Highly recommendable.

2009 Broad and sweeping attack. Dry, rich and unctuous mid palate. Mineral notes that stand out on light souvenirs of fruit. Fresh acidity. Bitter notes. Long and persistent finish.

Yellow colour with golden trims. Clean and bright. Glyceric and continuous tear.

Complex and very expressive in the nose. Plenty of fruit notes that range from citrus (almost ripe) to candied fruit. Marked presence of minerals. Background full of floral notes and light notes provided by the oak: nuts, butter and pastries.
