About Fonterenza Pettirosso

Fonterenza Pettirosso is a natural red wine made from Sangiovese and a small portion of Ciliegiolo. It is a wine from Tuscany produced by the Fonterenza winery.

Fonterenza is a small-sized young winery run by the Padovani sisters. They planted their first vineyard in 1999 and currently have 4 hectares that they cultivate biodynamically. They make natural wines based on the philosophy of minimal intervention in the winery.

Fonterenza Pettirosso comes from grapes purchased from trusted producers with whom Fontereza collaborates. They are about 35 years old, and planted in clay and shale soils, and are cultivated biodynamically.

The grapes for Fonterenza Pettirosso are vinified in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. On arriving in the winery, the harvest is destemmed, pressed and vatted. In the tanks the must-wine macerates with the skins for some 10-15 days. Once fermented the wine undergoes 8 to 10 months of ageing, one part in barrels and another in stainless steel tanks as well. Approximately 5,500 bottles of this craft wine are produced.

Fonterenza Pettirosso gets its name from the red-breasted finches that inhabit the vineyard. It is a highly typical wine that is fresh, fruity and pleasant.
2017 Fonterenza Pettirosso 2017 is a wine that has fresh aromas of red and black berries, sweet spices and flowers. Its flavour is full, appetising and balanced, with a pleasant freshness and perfect tannins.
