Tasting notes Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy 2018

Red wine Aged in wood Biodynamic and Organic. 12 meses en depósitos de hormigón and 12 meses en barricas de roble.

Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy 2018 is a ripe, cherry-coloured red with a medium-low colour intensity. The nose is very intense, with notes of cherries, currants, blueberries, earthy notes, mushroom and white pepper. Really quite something! The palate is frank and medium-bodied, very fresh and with crisp tannins. Medium and persistent finish.

About Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy

On the Gabin et Félix Richoux family estate, in the A.O.C. Irancy (in Burgundy), not all vintages see the light of day. Only the best vintages, after several years of aging, are released for sale. The best of the best. Zero margin for failure. So anyone who gets a bottle from this winery can be sure that only the highest quality will find its way into their hands and mouth. It doesn’t matter which one you choose. Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy might be one of them.

The Richoux brothers, Gabin andFélix, are at the helm of this family business that has been making wines since 1620. After all, what they do is work. The real management (the real boss) is their father, Thierry Richoux, who has also already done his share of work. Thanks to him, his efforts and his approaches, the Richoux name is now a reference in the A.O.C. Irancy: no industrial yeasts, manual harvests, biodynamic cultivation and long aging are some of the basic standards in their production process.

Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy is a single-variety Pinot Noir (it couldn’t be any different in this denomination) that has been aged for two years in stainless steel and oak barrels. The grapes are grown in the family-owned vineyard located in the famous amphitheatre that surrounds the village. Just a few minutes from Chablis, the soils are very similar to those that abound in the land of Chardonnay, with an abundance of limestone. However, highlights of the A.O.C. Irancy include its climate, which is especially favourable for Pinot Noir, where the horseshoe shape the vines are arranged in is ideal for the orientation of the plants. Because of this, depending on the side they are on, the same variety will have different ripening points, and will be used for different wines.

Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy is harvested by hand, completely destemmed and transferred to the winery, where the winemaking process begins with a cold maceration that lasts about three days. At this point, Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy is allowed to begin fermenting spontaneously, whenever it wishes, using native yeasts that will do their job at a rate that will extend the work by two to three weeks. All of this takes place in stainless steel tanks, where Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy is left until it also undergoes malolactic fermentation (late spring). After this, Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy is aged for two years (the first in stainless steel tanks; the second in old French oak barrels).

After this time, and provided that the wine meets the expectations of the Richoux family (which is not always the case), Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy is bottled and put on sale, becoming a unique and unrivalled wine.

2017

Simply exquisite. Gabin et Félix Richoux Irancy 2017 is a red wine brimming with scents, encompassing red fruits, spices, plums, and rose petals. Yet, its olfactory complexity is not the most striking nor the most alluring aspect. On the palate, it is delightful, medium-bodied, with refined tannins and crisp acidity. Charming and sophisticated. To be savored now or cellared for future enjoyment.
