About Granbazán Limousin Blanco

When the noble Manuel Otero y Otero acquired an estate in Cambados, within the D.O. Rías Baixas (Galicia) in 1965, a dream was set in motion. The aspiration to cultivate and produce a premium quality albariño. This dream was realised by his son under the name Agro de Bazán, allowing the launch of exquisite single-varietal wines in 1989 under the brand Granbazán. The extensive plantation of this indigenous variety, cultivated with rigorous and scientific methods in the style of a French chateau at a time when few agricultural enterprises in the area were knowledgeable in this field, quickly turned this project into a model to follow. A model that continuously explores new vinification techniques, such as the Granbazán Limousin Blanco, an albariño distinctively aged in oak.

Originating from a vineyard with weathered granite soil, Granbazán Limousin Blanco is a remarkably unique wine, with its initial production trials dating back to the 1980s. Derived from grapes that benefit from the microclimate of the Rías Baixas and are meticulously hand-harvested with fruit selection both in the vineyard and at the winery's sorting table, this wine undergoes a very particular vinification process. Following the classic destemming and cold maceration for 8 to 10 hours and fermentation at a controlled temperature, it introduces the novelty of aging for several months on its lees in 225 and 600-litre French oak barrels and further in stainless steel tanks. The result is an albariño with a harmonious balance between fruit and wood.

However, to produce Granbazán Limousin Blanco, it must be noted that it is only crafted in exceptional vintages, those where the grapes possess the necessary characteristics to be aged in oak. It serves as a true ambassador of albariño, intriguingly passing through wood to showcase all the excellence of this variety.
