About Didier Grappe Les Insouciantes

Les Insouciantes, the unconcerned in French, are people who have no interest in following general beliefs, opinions or functions. And it is not that Didier Grappe, the famous organic winemaker from the Jura (France), neglects his work at all, but what is certain is that he does not subscribe to any traditional winemaking methods, instead focussing on preserving the vine in its purest state. In honour of this conviction, he has launched this red wine under the name Didier Grappe Les Insouciantes.

With 4 hectares of certified organic land in the heart of the Jura, in the commune of Saint-Lothain, what makes Didier Grappe special is his hard work and dedication to his vineyards. And although he specialises in white wines, Didier Grappe Les Insouciantes is a very worthwhile exception. This is a blend of Poulsard, Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Chardonnay from 40 year old vines planted in calcareous soils on blue marl, 300 metres above sea level. All viticulture shows respect for the environment and the vines are home to a wide variety of animals like birds, spiders and rabbits. Following a manual harvest, the grapes are destemmed in the winery and then undergo a 15-day semi-carbonic maceration and 10 months of aging.

With no yeast, no tannins, no capitalisation, no acidity correction and no added sulphites, Didier Grappe Les Insouciantes is pure grapes. A real light, crisp and bright Jura that, with a low alcohol, will leave your mind free from worry.

 

2020

Grappe Les Insouciantes 2020 is a juicy red wine with aromas of small red fruits accompanied by spicy notes. On the palate it is agile, meaty and fresh. A light wine with ripe tannins and a crisp fruitiness that will leave you wanting more. We would recommend opening the bottle half an hour before drinking.


 
2018 Grappe Les Insouciantes 2018 is a juicy wine with aromas of fresh red fruit and background floral notes. On the palate it is light, fresh and delicious. A very fruity, easy to drink wine with a delicious crisp acidity.
