Heras Cordón Expresión 2016 is a red wine of serene and intricate character. On the nose, it unveils aromas of bay leaf, wild herbs, and a whisper of the Atlantic that imparts freshness. When swirled, notes of an autumn forest emerge, along with subtle exotic spices and the warmth of creamy oak. On the palate, it is enveloping, with lively yet tamed tannins, ripe fruit that caresses the palate, and a minerality that provides tension. Its finish is long and harmonious, with a spicy echo that invites contemplation.

About Heras Cordón Expresión

Heras Cordón Expresión is a monovarietal Tempranillo red wine produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Heras Cordón , under the DOCa. Rioja in Spain .

 

The grapes used to make Heras Cordón Expresión wine come from plots located in Laguardia, La Rioja Alavesa and in Fuentemayor, La Rioja Alta located 550 and 405 meters above sea level, where very stony clay and calcareous soils predominate. These vineyards are 55 years old. The bunches are harvested manually, at their optimum point of ripening, and transported in 20-kilo boxes. 

 

Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts under controlled temperatures with periodic pumping over and daily perforations of the cap. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels and is then aged for 22 months in new French oak barrels.

 

Heras Cordón is a family with a long winemaking tradition dating back to the 19th century, who haven’t stopped evolving during this time, with the aim of continuing to produce only great vintage and limited production wines such as this Heras Cordón Expresión , made from work, science, art, love of the vineyard and tradition.

2015 Heras Cordón Expresión 2015 is a red wine which on the nose shows aromas reminiscent of wild herbs accompanied by balsamic nuances and spicy notes of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate it’s concentrated, with a long attack, and accompanied by agreeable tannins and ripe red berries. A creamy, complex red wine, with a mineral nuance and a lot of personality.
