About Cepa 21 Horcajo

An ambitious and exciting project. This is how Cepas 21 came to be over than ten years ago. This is an ambitious winery that right from the beginning was laying the foundations of modern viticulture and producing pure wines with the 21st century wine lover in mind. Working to their motto “If you like wine, you understand wine” they create pleasant, accessible and cheerful wines with the aim of demystifying the world of wine and inviting modern consumers to be seduced by the joy that a good glass of wine can bring.

This is exactly what they have done with Horcajo, a single-variety Tinto Fino wine, whose name honours the plot of the same name where the grapes come from. Located in Castrillo de Duero, a town in Valladolid (Castilla y León), these vineyards are excellent for vine cultivation thanks to the diversity and fertility of the clay-limestone soils and the optimal climate conditions. When the grapes reach the winery, they ferment at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and then undergo malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels for 30 days. Finally, the wine ages for 18 months in those same barrels.

Although this is one of the most recent wines in the Moro brothers’ collection, Horcajo has already found itself among the top wines from the D.O. Ribera del Duero. An iconic wine from a winery that showcases the maximum expression of a very unique terroir with elegance and exuberance.

 

2015

Horcajo 2015 is a concentrated high-end red wine with aromas of black fruits, notes of roasted coffee and earthy and smoky hints. On the palate it is full-bodied, round and exuberant. A tasty wine with generous oak notes and a long, lingering finish.
