About Humus Curtimenta

Humus Curtimenta is a natural and organic orange wine made by Encosta da Quinta with the Touriga Nacional, Frenao Pires and Arinto varieties in Lisbon.

Rodrigo Filipe is the man behind the Encosta da Quinta family estate. He is a self-taught winemaker and works with organic agriculture in the vineyard and natural winemaking in the winery, which lies a few kilometres north of Lisbon and just 20 km from the Atlantic Ocean. All of this work results in earthy, light and very original wines.

Humus Curtimenta comes from the estate’s own vineyards. These are strains planted in clay soils and influenced by the Atlantic breeze and humidity. They are cultivated using organic agriculture and no chemicals that could affect the natural balance of the terroir. When the grapes are ready, they are harvested by hand in small, carefully selected boxes.

In the winery, the Humus Curtimenta grapes are pressed and left in contact with their skins for 3 months. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in amphoras. The wine then ages for 9 months in 225 litre chestnut foudres. It is finely bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites.

Made through pure intuition, the Humus Curtimenta wine macerates with its skins and enjoys a unique authenticity and energy. An elegant creative endeavour with an Atlantic influence.

2018 Humus Curtimenta 2018 is an orange wine with aromas of tropical fruits, floral notes and hints of forest herbs. On the palate it is pure, lively and elegant with marked tannins and delicious touches of toasted almonds.
