About Iago's Wine Marina Rosé

In the realm of wine, it is a rarity to encounter female trailblazers. Therefore, when we do discover one, we must certainly keep an eye on her achievements. Marina Kurtanidze, alongside Tea Melanashvili, established the first Georgian winery founded by women in 2012. Under the name Mandili, they introduced natural wines crafted using the traditional kvevri method, gaining international recognition. Subsequently, in collaboration with her husband Iago Bitarishvili, who is also a pioneer in the production of Georgian natural wines, they steadfastly adhere to local traditions. Resisting the allure of modern vinification techniques, they produce wines of finesse and grace that encapsulate enchantment.

An exemplar of the allure inherent in the wines crafted by this duo is Iago's Wine Marina Rosé, a rosé that bears her name and is composed of the indigenous varieties chinuri and tavkveri. Considering that Iago became the first Georgian winemaker to attain organic certification in 2005, all vineyard practices are conducted with an ecological ethos. When the grapes reach full maturity, they are handpicked. Thereafter, in the winery, both varieties are immersed whole-cluster in qvevri (clay vessels used for fermenting and storing wine in Georgia) and co-ferment with stems, skins, and seeds for 5 months. The wine is ultimately bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulfur.

Sensual, refined, and unadulterated, Iago's Wine Marina Rosé is a vivid testament to the best of Georgian tradition. A wine vinified with its renowned qvevri (recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO since 2013), which Marina and her husband Iago have learned to harness exquisitely.
