About Intipalka Cabernet Sauvignon-Petit Verdot Reserva

The Peruvian wine industry is concentrated in the Ica region, south of Lima. It is in this region that the main wineries of the country of Machu Picchu are located, with the most daring of them immersed in a process of technological reconversion with a view to establish Peruvian wine in the high-end range. One of the forerunner families of this initiative is undoubtedly the Italian-born Queirolo family. Currently in the hands of the third generation, the dynasty continues with the production of a line of quality wines under the name Intipalka ("valley of the sun" in Quechua). Considering that its vineyards are located in one of the most arid areas on the planet, the wines they are able to produce here are incredibly fresh and wonderfully fruity. They have everything they need to become the country's benchmark brand.

One of its top wines is this Intipalka Cabernet Sauvignon-Petit Verdot Reserva, a coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot that makes up part of Intipalka's exclusive Reserva range. A high-altitude wine that is born 500 metres above sea level in deep loam soil where, due to the dryness of the area, drip irrigation is employed. Under the guidance of the chief winemaker, native-born Argentinian Luis Gómez, the grapes are harvested and selected by hand and transported to the winery in 15 kg crates. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine is aged for 6 months in second passage French oak barrels.

Having received recognition in important competitions such as Mundus Vini, the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge, Intipalka Cabernet Sauvignon-Petit Verdot Reserva is one of the first Peruvian wines to include Crianza ageing in the wine-making process. A rich, smooth and pleasing coupage.

2019

Intipalka Cabernet Sauvignon-Petit Verdot Reserva 2019 is a flowing red wine with aromas of ripe black fruits, notes of strawberry, cassis and plum and herbal accents. The palate is complex, smooth and rich. A wine with noticeable acidity, mature tannins and a long, enjoyable finish.
