Joey Tensley's journey into the world of wine unfolds almost like a coming-of-age tale. At the tender age of twelve, during a football team's visit to a winery in France for a tournament, he first experienced the enchantment of winemaking. It was then he knew he aspired to become a winemaker. Years later, that inquisitive boy evolved into a winemaker who learned from California's finest and cultivated a profound appreciation for the uniqueness of Santa Barbara County (USA), a region with distinctive terroirs and immense growth potential.

In 1998, Joey and his wife Jennifer Tensley established their winery in the picturesque coastal village of Los Olivos, a hidden gem of the Central Coast. Since then, their focus has been unwavering: to seek out specific terroirs and harvest grapes from small, meticulously chosen vineyards, beyond the general labels. The family's passion, attention to detail, and commitment to quality have elevated Tensley to one of the premier family-run wineries in Santa Barbara County.

In 2017, Joey decided to take a further step and launched Fundamental Wines by Joey Tensley, a project that embodies his philosophy: crafting straightforward, robust wines with an impeccable quality-to-price ratio, without compromising excellence.

Fundamental Cabernet Sauvignon is the embodiment of this philosophy. The grapes are nurtured in the sun-drenched vineyards of California, handpicked to ensure only the ripest and most aromatic fruits reach the winery. The winemaking process blends tradition with care: a gentle pressing, followed by classic fermentation that enhances the fruity aromas, and aging in high-quality oak barrels for 12 months, imparting complexity and refined nuances.
