About Josmeyer Riesling Les Pierrets

Josmeyer Riesling Les Pierrets is a biodynamic white wine made on lees by Domaine Josmeyer with the white Riesling variety at AOC Alsace (France).

Jean Meyer, or Josmeyer was a winegrower who opted for biodynamics ever since he took control of the family winery. He knew how to pair his great passion, wine, with great mastery of art, literature and cuisine, and his labels were always designed by young artists. Today, his daughters have taken over, maintaining and honoring their father’s figure.

Josmeyer Riesling Les Pierrets comes from two plots with 50-year-old vines planted in gravel and loamy limestone soils. Biodynamic agriculture is practiced following the astronomical calendar and using organic and ecological treatments. Maturation is slow and the harvest manual.

In the cellar, the Josmeyer Riesling Les Pierrets grapes are pressed whole and left for 5 to 8 hours. Afterwards the obtained must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts in wooden barrels for 1 to 4 months. There it’s left to age for a short period before bottling.

Riesling Les Pierrets, which means sparrows, perfectly shows the minerality of the Riesling variety. A concentrated and delicious white wine with a unique personality.

2015 Josmeyer Riesling Les Pierrets 2015 is a white wine defined by aromas of stone fruit, white flowers and hints of menthol on a mineral background. On the palate it’s a fresh, dry and very balanced wine. It shows a bright acidity, a good central body and a long and persistent finish.
