About La Casa de Las Locas Ribeiro

We have no idea anymore whether we are still sane or a little bit crazy. What is clear is that we still love wines aged on lees. And La Casa de Las Locas Ribeiro is at the top of our list!

This white wine, made with double fermentation, both alcoholic and malolactic, is aged on its lees for three months, achieving the roundest and creamiest expression of the Treixadura, the main white variety of the D.O. Rías Baixas vineyards in Galicia. This is where Bodegas Peñafiel run their Territorio Cepa project, which is where this wine is made. Apparently this company was drawn in by both the area’s granitic soils and its Atlantic climate, with cold, rainy winters and mild summers.

The grapes from this area ripen slowly, gaining a very rich and characteristic acidity, which they try to tame and control in the winery through aging in barrels and on lees. The La Casa de Las Locas Ribeiro grapes are harvested by hand, during the early hours of the day, when the fruit acquires a characteristic aroma and freshness. After a prompt selection process, where only the highest quality bunches are selected, La Casa de Las Locas Ribeiro undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Once finished, it is time for malolactic fermentation in the tank and aging on the lees where both the aroma and volume of La Casa de Las Locas Ribeiro are enhanced.

The result is a delicious white wine from the north of Spain, which is already making some people lose their minds. That is why we suggest a responsible and careful enjoyment. We don’t want psychiatric admissions to skyrocket because of us!

La Casa de Las Locas Ribeiro 2020 is an aromatic white wine, lemon yellow in colour with greenish hues. Citrus aromas (lime, tangerine), floral notes and herbal touches appear on the nose. The palate is fresh and well-balanced, with citrus flavours.
