About Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato

We are so used to seeing 75 cl. bottles of wine. But have you ever wondered why they are this size? The truth is that there are various different theories. The first is based on trading standards, when the French exported wine barrels with a capacity of 225 litres, which was equivalent to 25 cases of a dozen 75 cl. bottles. There is another theory around the lung capacity of the blower who made the bottles, whose limit was approximately 750 ml. The final theory is that this is the best size for customers and producers because it equates to 6 125 ml glasses. Whatever the story is, nowadays, the 75 cl bottle is the most common. However, it is not the only size. There are more and more new generation winegrowers who are deciding to leave convention behind and sell their wines in one-litre bottles. These are usually natural, light and easy to drink wines with the simple aim of being enjoyable. This is the case with Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato, a minimal intervention rosé wine made by Clementine Bouveron and Gianmarco Antonuzzi. After working with some of the most renowned natural producers in France for 2 years, this couple settled in central Italy (Lazio) and set up their Le Coste winery with the aim of revitalising local grapes and recovering traditional methods.

Made from a blend of local varieties like Aleatico, Sangiovese, Merlot and Procanico, Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato is made through minimal intervention. The vines are 20 years old and planted in volcanic soils at 450 metres above sea level. They grow alongside olive trees, chestnut trees, bushes and oak trees and are cared for according to the needs of each plant. To do this, they use organic agriculture and biodynamic methods without intervening in the vineyard’s natural cycle. Once the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, they are harvested and immediately taken to the couple’s winery in the village of Gradoli (Lazio). There, the grapes are destemmed, they undergo a 2-hour maceration and ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. It then spends about 8 months in concrete tanks. Finally, it is bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites.

Sold in a 1 litre bottle, a larger size than we are used to, Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato is a wine designed simply to be enjoyed with friends. A refreshing and funky rosé that will keep the fun going for longer.

2020

Le Coste Litrozzo Rosato 2020 is a rosé wine with aromas of slightly ripe red summer fruits accompanied by citrus notes. On the palate it is fruity, light and very funky. An easy to drink wine with refreshing acidity and one that is easy to share because of its 1 litre size.
