About Altanza Reserva

Altanza Reserva is a single-variety Tempranillo red wine produced by the Altanza winery in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

With the aim of making reserva and gran reserva wines that would be accessible to everyone, a group of Riojan businessmen set up Altanza in 1998 in the town of Fuenmayor, Rioja Alta. Using the name Altanza, meaning ‘loyalty’ in old Castilian, they combine tradition and innovation across more than 200 hectares of their own vineyards. As a result, they create high-end wines, and many of them have been awarded 90 Parker points or more.

Altanza Reserva comes from a dry land plot planted with 30-year-old strains in clay-ferrous soil. With a limited yield of 6,000 kilograms per hectare, they practice traditional agriculture and don’t use any chemicals. Cultivation and harvest is completely manual.

Once the Altanza Reserva grape has been destemmed and crushed, it is vinified in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28ºC over 15 days, plus another 10 days of maceration. It then ages for 18 months in new French oak barrels, plus three months in French oak barrels. Finally, it rests in the bottle for 12 months before going to market.

Altanza Reserva is a tempranillo red wine that expresses the classic style of this Riojan winery. A silky and meaty Gran Reserva that is most importantly accessible to all budgets.

2010 Velvety and full-bodied. Fruit-forward, it exhibits remarkably pleasant tannins.

Deep garnet hue with ruby highlights.

Sophisticated and harmonious, it presents itself with elegance and a highly aromatic profile. Hints of balsamic and oak nuances.
2008 It shows a great attack with an even better mid-palate, which is delicate, fleshy and soft. The fruit becomes blacker in the mouth, accompanied by present but ripe and velvety tannins. Great acidity which provides agility and energy. Sweet and fruity retro-olfaction. Medium-length aftertaste. Wine without edges.

Ruby red colour with light maroon edge. Clean and bright.

2005 Wine with an intense attack and a long, meaty and velvety mid palate. Very balanced wine, with lots of black fruit (with some notes of red fruit) and sweet creamy spices. It shows a balanced acidity, integrated tannins and a long and lingering finish that leaves a spicy aftertaste.  A classic Rioja with an excellent value for money.

Intense red cherry colour, with scarlet and tile red reflections. Clean and bright wine with thin tears.

Smart, seductive and balanced aromas with a certain complexity that makes it very pleasant. Initially, many notes of black fruits (blackberries) are released along with intense balsamic nuances, which give way to an explosion of spices, coffee, tobacco and cocoa, with a very creamy texture on a good toasted background.
2004

Silky palate, fleshy. Wine-bodied, dense, with hints of fruit, minerals and spices. Long and persistent finish.

Cherry red, intense and clean.

It is a wine that seduces with an elegant nose. Complex and well balanced. Large aromatic record memories of blackberry, spices, snuff, smoke, ...
2001 Live, full-bodied, with good step mouth, wide and long. Typical acidity of the Rioja area.

Clean, intense red color pillory, little changed.

Intense aroma of the variety and mix his aging in French and American oak.
