About M. Chapoutier Ermitage de L'Orée

M. Chapoutier Ermitage de L'Orée is a white wine from a monovarietal plot of Marsanne grapes from the Apellation Hermitage, in the Rhone Valley, produced by Maison Chapoutier.

Maison Chapoutier is a winery that has been characterised by cultivating its vineyards with the greatest respect for natural balance and the terroir since 1808. It has been the precursor of biodynamics in the Rhone. The family motto reads "Fac et spera", do and wait.

The vineyards for M. Chapoutier Ermitage de L'Orée are around 70 years old. Their yield per hectare is low and they produce a balanced and concentrated grape. The grapes come from the plot called Les Murets, and their soil is one of fluvial-glacial alluvial deposits. The harvest is carried out manually.

Once in cellar the grapes for M. Chapoutier Ermitage de L'Orée are pressed gently, and the must is disgorged statically to clean it of impurities, debris and dirt particles. Half of the must is fermented in vats and the rest in large open 600 litre barrels, stirring it regularly. Once fermented, it is aged on lees for 6 months with periodic battonages so that the yeasts are liberated with mannoproteins that will give creaminess and body to the wine. Before bottling, it is aged in the barrel for a period ranging from 10 to 12 months and is frequently tasted to monitor how the ageing process is progressing.

M. Chapoutier Ermitage de L'Orée is a fresh and lively wine that is voluminous and full-bodied, with hints of mint, pineapple, tropical fruit, toasted bread, brioche and certain mineral touches. It has a good acidity and a lingering persistence in the mouth. Depending on the vintage, the wine can be preserved for up to 75 years.
