About MacRobert & Canals Paraje De La Virgen

A plot adjacent to the village of Lanciego, in the La Virgen area (in La Rioja Alavesa), is the latest acquisition of the McRoberts&Canals family. On it, a vineyard of barely one hectare has stood for a century. Planted in 1920, the vines continue to yield high-quality clusters, worthy of a unique and singular wine. And from them, MacRobert & Canals Paraje De La Virgen is born.

The calcareous soils form the foundation for this centenary plant, where a wide variety of grapes are cultivated: tempranillo, garnacha tinta, graciano, mazuelo, and viura. All of these are used in the production of MacRobert & Canals Paraje De La Virgen. They have all been cultivated with the same respect and care, always being diligent with the environment, reducing impact, and working manually, without using pesticides or herbicides.

MacRobert & Canals Paraje De La Virgen is harvested selectively, classified, and destemmed, incubating and fermenting in small tanks (for about two weeks). During this time, gentle pump-overs will be carried out once a day to ensure that the must extracts all possible aromas and flavours. After this, MacRobert & Canals Paraje De La Virgen is transferred to French oak barrels for a year, ample time to stabilize and clarify naturally.

The main objective pursued by the oenologists at MacRobert & Canals Paraje De La Virgen is to achieve the same character and profile as the wines produced here years ago. And they have succeeded. Try it yourself and judge.
